I’m a student at York uni and am going down to Nottingham on Saturday to visit friends. What is the easiest way to book trains? I tried raileasy.co.uk last night but it didn’t accept my card and I’m not sure why. Does the same train company cover the distance from here to Notts so I can use their website? Or is it just worth me turning up on the day at the station? I am only there during the day and am coming back in the same evening.

on the internet.
national rail are good, i book ticktes wih them from slough to stoke-on-trent!
they are reliable and cheep compared to others.
you are able to find out if you need to change trains etc.
but 8 out of 10 times you dont have to.
in your case it best to book in advance
good luck =]

http://www.thetrainline.com is what I always use. Cheaper to buy in advance usually. Sometimes two single tickets are cheaper than a day return so watch for that.
I agree with the answer who suggested using the trainline.com. That site is showing a single from York to Nottingham on the 8.27 for £13.50 and the same price on the 18.45 back, which will save you £7.30 on the cheapest Off Peak return (£35.50) available on the 8.27 and 8.44 out and 18.15 and 18.45 return. So book now, don’t wait until you travel!
So far as the same company question is concerned, the answer is your journey will necessitate using several services, depending on the time you travel. However, you can book through journeys on any train company’s website – that is a condition of their franchises.
