I live in a town next to Basford. There are two parts to Basford “old” and “New”. The only thing that it has going for it is the Tram. There are not many shops, a couple of pubs. The house prices my be quite good because there is not a lot there. I personally don’t rate it as a good place for a 30 some thing couple to live, but having said that you are only 15 minutes from Nottingham, either by bus or tram. The schools are not bad and the links to the motorway are quite good.I hope this has helped. I could perhaps help more if you say where you would be looking.
Try West bridgford or The Meadows.
As an ex Notts lad myself(now living in Germany)i can say you would like it there,You would have good nightlife,Be able to go for long walks along The River Trent,Goto watch Nottingham Forest Or Notts County Football clubs, theres the Cricket ground where the test match is played, and only 5 minutes drive from the town center
Have Fun,
A general rule to go by in Nottingham is that all the nicer areas are outside the city boundry. I am from sherwood, right next to basford i i wouldn’t recommend it. Its not too bad but its not good either. Whoever recommended the meadows clearly hasn’t lived in nottingham for a while as it is one of the highest crime areas now. I would say westbrigford would be a nice place for a 30 something couple, although it may be expensive.
I’d suggest not the city centre! but it depends what you want, if you want city living, apartments and bars then that’s fine. as for the rest of the city i’m not sure, some areas like basford, st anns, the meadows etc aren’t really ideal.
perhaps you should consider further out of the city. west bridgford is quite nice and edwalton. or further out still like Mansfield, ilkeston etc.
for the best kept secret try south normanton (j28 of M1) it’s a large village with a couple of middle class housing estates, there are a selection of shops and excellent commuter links to Nottingham, derby, Mansfield, Sheffield and chesterfield.
where ever you look at houses it may be worth checking it out on this site – it gives crime figure and neighbourhood profiles http://www.upmystreet.com/
Happy house hunting!!
The Basford area isnt to bad, but then it’s not that great either, the worst areas in nottingham are “the Meadows, and ST. Annes” areas
Clifton isn’t much better.
the best places to live would be West Bridgford, its approx 2 miles from city centre, just over the River Trent. nice area lived here most of my life, lots to do, good shopping, everything close, not much crime, nice houses.
Hope this helps.
Depends whereabouts work is in Nottingham. I’m not too keen on Basford myself, its too near Hyson Green! Areas to avoid: hyson green, st annes, parts of mapperly, clifton.
Nicer areas, Carlton, Gedling, Bramcote, West Bridgford.
Depends on what you like to do as a 30 something couple. Pubs, restaurants etc, to be found in most of those nicer areas, but I suppose West Bridgford would be the best as a ‘cosmopolitan’ place. But then the house prices are very pricey.
Depends on yours budget for a house I suppose
