"Which sports are most popular in Nottingham?"

Football, ice hockey, ice skating, or watersports?

Answer: Football!

Nottingham Forest Football Club is one of the most well supported teams in the game and is well known throughout the world thanks to its affiliation with Nottingham Forest - the famous place with the Major Oak where Robin Hood lived and played with his band of Merry Men! You will see droves of Nottingham sports supporters, men and women, walking to the stadium along the roads near to Trent Brige before and after every match.

The famous twosome Christopher Dean (real name Lindy Roth) and his wife Jayne Torvill (pictured above right) are Nottingham born and used to appear on the Paul Daniels Magic Show seemingly all the time throughout the 1980's. Their particular talent for skating on ice in time to classical music proved to be a very relaxing and enjoyable spell appreciated almost all. I think one of them slipped and sprained their ankle and now, sadly, no longer dance.

Nowadays the Ice Skating Rink has been transformed. It has become a modern new flagship of a building and has raised its status to the heights of self-proclaimed National Ice Stadium. As a government loan funded publicly-run operation it is not profit making and is operated mainly to attract people to sport in Nottingham, and through the inspiration of Torvill and Dean provides a good skating experience to all its customers.

For practising or preparing for your own sport in Nottingham - the Nottingham Arena also has its own small subscription-based gymnasium with a good range of equipment and clean changing areas. Other gyms also exist right from the down and dirty sawdust on the floor "Castle Gym" which is like the gym in the Rocky movies on Castle Gate, through to the highly polished pay-monthly sports club chains such as David Lloyd, Virgin Active, and Fitness First.

At the Watersports Centre, Holme Pierrepoint near West Bridgford, Nottingham you can canoe on the rapid there, or row on the substantial rowing lake. Also gym facilities exist, and refreshments, as well as a spectators area and pleasant brisk walks. Nottingham is great for sport!
