I had the fish and chips in the cafe downstairs and it came out on a black slate tile instead of a plate. I had to ask for them to put it on a place which the first waitress flatly refused to do. The second one agreed but my colleagues noticed there was a lot of rolling of eye balls going on amongst staff in the bar area. In my opinion the Nottingham Contemporary is overly pretentious and the best fish and chips wasn’t the best because the fish was cut into long thin strips and battered which made it like tubes of excess batter. My colleagues were not overly impressed with their food either. Nice surroundings though, although the chairs and tables are rather basic. Would go there for a drink again but perhaps not the food again until things improve.
