If you want to go ice skating in Nottingham then the number one place to be is the National Ice Arena (previously known as the Nottingham Ice Stadium).

Nottingham Ice Rink was closed, transformed with public money, and re-opened as the National Ice Arena and the exterior of the building architecturally conveys the impressive pride that the City of Nottingham invests in our heritage in a way that allows the public to experience the joys of ice skating for themselves for a reasonable price. For about £5 you can hire your ice-skates and enjoy up to three and a half hours on the indoor ice rink. Of course Nottingham is famous for Torville and Dean so as you can imagine the ice rink is always popular.

For the best value for money we recommend the family ticket for £20 which is for up to four people. This includes hire of your skates. If you go regularly you will no doubt want to own your own skates. We recommend rather than buy skates in the UK you order yours online from Hockey Giant in the USA. They have a better range and lower prices.

Ice Skating Tricks and Techniques

At Nottingham Ice Arena, you can get used to the ice around the outside first where you will join lots of hangers-on. Once you get going we recommend you look forward, find your centre of gravity and balance, watch how other people are skating successfully and it doesn't matter if you fall over - the more mistakes you make the quicker you will learn it is easy and quite natural to skate. Even very young children can enjoy it! Ice skating really is a lot of fun for families, young teenagers, couples, and single people.
