Smile South Florida’s main focus for its website is the ease and usability of which its clients can find what they need. With so many of our patients coming from abroad, Smile South Florida needed to be able to speak to these patients needs too. “We are seeing such a large number of international patients,” says Heather, who is the New Patient Coordinator for Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry. “Many patients want to take a trip to south Florida for vacation/holiday, and get their cosmetic dental work done at the same time, or receive treatment while they come here for a business trip,” Heather mentioned. “In all cases, people are more than willing to travel a great distance when it comes to their long term dental health and the aesthetics of their smile.”

To accommodate a broad range of clientele, the dental practice has added a new feature on our website called the ‘language bar.’ This language bar can be found on the left hand side in the navigation area of our website. It can be easily spotted as a bar that consists of several colorful flags. Each flag is representative of the language of origin for that specific country. When you click on each flag, the website will automatically change to display that language. For example, if you click on the flag of France, the website will be translated into French for you. Currently, the dental practice website can be translated into French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and Italian.

This makes it much easier for someone to read about the office, the services, and obtain contact information. Having a tool like this is very useful because it reaches across nations. Smile South Florida is helping patients everyday from all over the world achieve the smile of their dreams!

Choosing Pharmacy as a Career

Pharmacists are essential figures in the healthcare industry and when you decide on a career as a pharmacist you’ll understand why as they develop an extensive knowledgebase of medications and dosages.  Pharmacists also need to be able to relate to people understanding what the solution and medication fits their ailments from their description of what hurts and also answer questions that people may have.  Pharmacists also need a good eye for details as a main part of their role will involve dosage and giving people the right dosage is important as the wrong dosage could be bad for a person’s health.  This side of the role is also important when managing others including pharmacy technicians as overseeing them whilst maintaining a good workflow.   

If you have decided to become a pharmacist it takes 5 years, 4 years doing a degree course in pharmacy and a year for practical experience ending with an exam.  

In 2010 the University of Nottingham was voted the best School of Pharmacy, this is a big achievement for the University but after a review of their website and understanding their own advances and discoveries.  Ornella Barra is a special professor at the University of Nottingham, her main role being chief executive of pharmaceutical wholesale division at Alliance Boots means Ornella is well placed for understanding the industry and the changing role of a pharmacist meaning graduates are well placed to attain jobs with the current skill set needed.

Once graduated, pharmacists have a range of roles to choose from pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, laboratories for education, research and development.  To help make the choice easier at the time doing work placements to get a better understanding of the industry and what it has to offer and where that choice can lead to.

As demonstrated above with Ornella Barra’s role, chief executive of pharmaceutical wholesale division, Ornella started her career as a pharmacist, managing a local pharmacy which she later went onto to buy.  From their Ornella’s career continued to grow to her role of today.

This above look at the possible direction and scope to grow a career in pharmacy is just one look at where a degree in pharmacy can take you.

When creating a web site design, it is easy to fall into the trap of trying to be all things to all people. In reality, the key to a good web site design is focus, focus, focus.

We Don’t Need No Stink’n Distractions

It happens ever few weeks or so. I am sitting in front of the computer contemplating the meaning of life, i.e., why my numbers aren’t being picked in the lottery. A frustrated person calls and wants to know why their site isn’t converting. Shaking myself from my revelry, I valiantly pull up their site and here is what I find.

A mess.

The front page is a mass of blinking this and floating that. In really nasty situations, there will be something like a banner telling me the weather conditions in some city.

As if I cared.

I don’t even look at the weather in Nottingham. Okay, we don’t really have any, but that isn’t the point.

The point is a site must have focus to covert traffic into revenue. This is known as the rule of one. Every page of a site should focus on one subject, product, thing, picture or whatever is relevant to your site.

If you have a page devoted to disco shirts with huge lapels, then everything on the page should focus on disco shirts with huge lapels. Typically, such a page would consists of brief text describing the disco shirts, thumbnails of the shirts and prices. The page should not include disco cds for sale. The cds should get their own page.

Don’t believe me? Then let us kneel at the alter of Google. The Google Adsense program is designed to let you put Google advertisements on your site. To put the ads up, you simply copy and paste a script provided by Google. Once the site is republished, each page with script will show Google ads. If you look at each page, you will note the script produces different ads for different pages. Further, the ads on each page correspond to the subject matter on the page.

Why does Google do this? Because ads that are relevant to the focus of the page will be clicked more than ads that are not. Put another way, the Adsense program is designed to focus on a single subject matter. The rule of one rears its head again.

Are you seeing a trend here?

If your site isn’t converting well, analyze the pages to see if you are focusing on one topic. If you have a weather banner on your site, there better be a very, very good reason.
