In the 1982 ITV franchise reshuffle, the former ATV region in the midlands was split into a dual region required to serve the East and West midlands with their own dedicated local news services. Central News began broadcasting in the East Midlands from the temporary Giltbrook studios awaiting a move into the East Midland’s Television Centre that was still under construction. Following the merger of Carlton and Granada, the closure of the television centres in Birmingham and Nottingham and the formation of ITV1 as a national brand, Central had now been reduced to nothing more than an on screen name. All Central’s transmissions came from Leeds, with the exception of East and West midlands news, both presented from Central’s Gas Street office in Birmingham. More cutbacks followed and ITV were allowed by the government regulator to merge the East and West midlands services. Here is the last minute of Central Tonight (East) from Friday 23rd Feb 09 and the start the newly merged programme from Monday 26th Feb 09.

@monkeymajikman I agree. Louisa James is beautiful, and in all black, simply mind-blowing.
Remember Dennis Coath and Keith Daniel who did the sport on Central Tv good times. Now all we get is how Birmingham City and West Brom get on
So sad for the East Midlands, We get news from Birmingham in which they are located 50 mils away from Nottingham
louisa james is fitt
altho she looks lyk a mean bitch lol
I know. She’s hot and got more fans that she’ll probably ever know
louisa james in black nylons… it just doesn’t get any better than that
Too many technical problems on central tonight. Central News is more complicated to follow though. And the presenters are serious!
Welcome to my imagination!
Would anyone agree with me if i say that ITV has definately hit the buffers with regional programmes.
i wanna lick louisa all over.
It was worth watching for Louisa James.
thaks ITV we now no local news in the East Midlands on tv
louisa james needs a waxing
Central News in the old East Midlands Studio Bimingham Bob Warman first time in East Studio theres a big suprise Studio E
They’ve done the same in the Southwest (closed Westcountry Plymouth with output from Bristol) and Northeast (closed Border with output from Gateshead).
This is just a cost-cutting exercise by ITV. All we’ve got are these huge super regions with shite content and little/no regional programming. When we had smaller regions, they all worked their butts off to be as good as each other – now they aren’t bothered with standards.
Yes, I agree. We were warned this would happen months ago. It is a shame.
Bob didn’t sound too happy!!!!!!
This is really sad folks…..endemic of the whole network being tidily uniformed and stripped of character.
Yes, I know what you mean. I thought I’d stick with ITV because the BBC crowd seem a bit twee, but with the greatest respect to Bob Warman, he’s from another era and not as relaxed as Steve Clamp or the rest of the East team were. The Birmingham team always seemed a bit pedestrian. Maybe it’s head office syndrome that caused that with bosses breathing down their necks? Old habits die hard, but I think I’ll be heading over to the BBC if things don’t lighten up a bit on Central. It’s a great shame
Its a farce.
BBC for me now
